Strong man contest in Gulf Shores

The Alabama Strongest Man Competition is set to showcase feats of strength and endurance at The Hangout in Gulf Shores. This event will bring together some of the state's most powerful athletes to compete for the coveted title of Alabama's Strongest Man. Spectators can witness an impressive display of raw power and athleticism as competitors tackle a series of challenging events designed to push their limits. From the Odd Object Medley to the Keg Load Series, these trials will test every aspect of the athletes' strength, speed, and stamina.


Scheduled for August 17, 2024, starting at 9am, the competition promises to be an exciting spectacle for both hardcore strongman enthusiasts and casual observers alike. The event offers a unique blend of athleticism and entertainment. Whether you're a strongman enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and thrilling event to attend, this competition at The Hangout is one to attend.


Below is a list of competitions on the schedule:

  • Odd Object Press Medley: Athletes will clean and press a keg, sandbag, block in that order as fast as they can in 60 secs for 1 rep each, must wait for down command. 60 second time limit.
  • Box Deadlift: Athletes will deadlift a box frame for reps. Straps allowed, no suits or briefs. Athletes will strap in on their time once the judge says go. (details on implement to follow later)
  • Keg carry in sand pit: Athletes will pick and carry a keg 25feetish, then run back and pick up another keg and carry it 25feetish. All implements must be standing up. 60 sec time limit. This will be in the sand. Gloves are ok, no tacky of any kind, including, but not limited to, spray tacky, tacky towels and stone tacky.
  • Head to head-Dinnie ring hold for time: -Athletes will go head-to-head in their weight class, they will pick and hold the dinnie rings as long as they can. Weights will be the same in each hand, split stance pick, time starts once you are locked out and time stops when any part touches the mat. Scores are based on hold time, whoever holds it the longest wins the event.
  • Kegs over bar: Athletes will pick and load a series of 5 kegs over a 15 ft long bar, kegs will be lined up by weight athletes will lift from lightest to heaviest as fast as possible in 60 secs. Height will be about 50 for women and 52 for men.

Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.
