Several Items Will Be Discussed In Today's Council Meeting

Orange Beach Library News

During today's City Council work session, the Orange Beach City Council will discuss a resolution regarding children’s books at the city’s library. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.

“The City Council has been made aware through public comment, as well as national and state news, that concerns have arisen regarding the age appropriateness of some content in children’s materials in the library and the accessibility to these materials by young children,” the proposed resolution states. “The policy provides that books and media containing material not appropriate for all audiences will be provided to children only with the consent of a parent and reiterates that pornographic materials are not available at the Orange Beach Public Library.”

The resolution also states this will bring the Orange Beach library “in line with new standards that are currently being implemented and developed across the state.”

Also, library-related, the council will consider hiring McCollough Architecture for design services for a new roof for $18,500. Next door at the Senior Center, the council will also consider hiring McCollough for $11,700 for design services for roof replacement and an addition to the building. These will be discussed at the work session and voted on in an upcoming regular session.
