City Services Schedule For Thanksgiving Week

Emergency Services to Remain Fully Operational

Local cities across the Gulf Coast, including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley, have announced holiday office closures and adjusted schedules in observance of Thanksgiving. While non-essential city offices will remain closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, essential services, including police, fire, and emergency operations, will continue without interruption. Residents are encouraged to note changes to trash pickup, library hours, and other municipal services during the holiday weekend.


City of Gulf Shores Announces Thanksgiving Holiday Closures

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the City of Gulf Shores will have the following facility closures and changes to regular hours of operations:


  • Emergency Services: The Gulf Shores Police Department, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, and other emergency services will remain open as usual to ensure public safety and health.
  • Administrative Offices: City administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, December 2, at 8 a.m.
  • Garbage and Recycling Pickup: Republic Services Garbage and Recycling pickup will not run on Thursday, November 28. Crews will pick up Thursday’s trash and recycling on Friday, November 29. The City of Gulf Shores Recycling Center will remain open for drop-offs. 
  • Yard Debris/Bulky Items Pickup: Yard debris/bulky pickup will not run on Thursday, November 28 or Friday, November 29. Crews will pick up Thursday and Friday’s debris between Monday, November 25, and Wednesday, November 27. Please have all yard debris/bulky items ready by Sunday, November 24.
  • Gulf Shores Public Library: The Gulf Shores Public Library will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, December 2, at 10 a.m.
  • Gulf Shores Museum: The Gulf Shores Museum will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. Normal business hours will resume on Saturday, November 30.
  • Bodenhamer Recreation Center: The Bodenhamer Recreation Center will be closed on Thursday, November 28. Normal business hours will resume on Friday, November 29.
  • Cultural Center: The Cultural Center will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, December 2. 
  • Tennis Center: The George C. Meyer Tennis Center will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. The outdoor tennis courts will remain open and available for public use. Normal business hours of the George C. Meyer Tennis Center will resume on Saturday, November 30.
  • Pickleball Courts: The pickleball courts at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will remain open for public use.
  • City Store: The City Store will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and will reopen on Friday, November 29.




City Of Orange Beach Offices Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

The City of Orange Beach wishes everyone a happy, restful and safe Thanksgiving holiday. We are grateful that we have active and caring citizens who are involved in our community and truly help make life better here. 


Non-essential city offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Concerning trash pickup during the holiday weekend, the usual Friday residential routes will run on Saturday. 


Normal business hours will resume on Monday, December 2nd.



City of Foley Thanksgiving Schedule


  • All non-emergency city offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • The Foley Welcome Center will be closed Thursday and Friday and reopen Monday, Dec. 2.
  • The Holmes Medical Museum and Foley Railroad Museum will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28. The museums will be open Friday and Saturday during regular hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The Foley Public Library will close after Wednesday, Nov. 27, and reopen Monday, Dec. 2.
  • The Graham Creek Nature Preserve will be open during daylight hours. The preserve’s Interpretive Center will be closed during the holiday and reopen Monday, Dec. 2.
  • Foley Public Works offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. 
  • Tuesday and Thursday garbage and recyclable collections will be picked up on Tuesday, Nov. 26. 
  • Wednesday and Friday garbage and recyclable collections will be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
  • Limb and yard debris collections will resume Tuesday, Dec. 3. Collections may take several days for all material to be picked up.

Governor Kay Ivey expressed support Wednesday for House Bill 437, which would establish a shark attack or unusual shark activity alert system in Alabama. The bill, which is sponsored by State Rep. David Faulkner (R-Hoover), was inspired by Lulu Gribbin, a Mountain Brook teen who survived a shark attack last summer off the coast of Florida.

In 2024 the State of Alabama enacted a Seafood Labeling Law for restaurants and other outlets within it's boundaries. A testing laboratory released a statement that "43% of Restaurants Serve Imported Shrimp" but would not mention the names of the outlets. They have made these allegations in 2024 as well. When editors of our news asked for proof of their methods and process we were referred to the business website.
