The Mobile Bay Ferry, a beloved local attraction and practical travel link across the mouth of Mobile Bay, will temporarily cease operations. The closure, expected to last until at least July 20th, is due to essential repairs being carried out at the Fort Morgan Landing. These repairs are crucial to ensure the safe docking of the ferries.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is more than just a mode of transport; it's a journey through history and nature. Connecting SR 193 at Dauphin Island on the west side with SR 180 at Mobile Point on the east, the ferry ride is considered “the Gulf-Coast’s Most Scenic Drive”. It offers travelers a unique opportunity to save time driving around and fuel costs.
The approximately 40-minute trip between Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan at Mobile Point provides passengers with stunning views of the two historic forts that have long guarded the entrance of Mobile Bay. It's a great way for passengers to view birds, sea life, and other boats and ships.
The ferry service utilizes two ferries, the Fort Morgan and the Marissa Mae Nicole, to carry passengers and vehicles across the Bay. At least one ferry operates year-round, with both ferries operating during the busy summer months.
For schedule updates and more information, passengers are encouraged to visit the Mobile Bay Ferry's
Facebook page.
While the temporary closure may cause some inconvenience, the essential repairs will ensure the continued safety and efficiency of the Mobile Bay Ferry service.
