gulf shores weather news

Gulf Shores residents and visitors are being urged to take extreme caution this weekend as the National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama, has issued a severe weather warning. The region is set to experience sweltering temperatures and high humidity levels, with little respite expected during the nighttime.

Excessive Heat Warning for Saturday

The Orange Beach Area is under an Excessive Heat Warning for today. Forecasts predict heat index values soaring up to a staggering 115°. Such extreme conditions can pose significant health risks, especially if one is exposed for prolonged periods.

Impacts for Saturday:

Prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses. This includes conditions like heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and the more severe heat stroke.

Excessive Heat Watch for Sunday

The heatwave is set to continue into Sunday, with the entire area under an Excessive Heat WATCH. The heat index values for Sunday could reach up to 113°, only slightly lower than Saturday but still dangerously high.

Safety Measures for Saturday & Sunday:

  • Ensure you are drinking ample fluids to stay hydrated.
  • If possible, remain indoors in an air-conditioned environment.
  • Avoid direct sunlight and refrain from outdoor activities.
  • Regularly check on elderly relatives, neighbors, and other vulnerable individuals.
  • It's imperative never to leave children, adults, or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short duration.

During these excessive and extreme heat events, it is advised to stay vigilant and prioritize safety. It's essential to recognize the signs of heat-related illnesses and act promptly. If you or someone you know feels dizzy, nauseous, or excessively sweaty, it's crucial to cool down immediately and seek medical attention if symptoms persist.
