Tunes and Tales: A Gulf Coast tradition celebrated at the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival

This week’s line-up on the Gulf Coast is full of musical adventures, hole in one’s and, as always, great food with a local flair. From the Official No Shoes radio party to a food truck festival, to the oldest Songwriters’ Festival in the United States, there’s something cool flowing in the coastal air for everyone.

For the avid golfer, colder seasons on the driving range may seem aloof and undesirable. Here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, however the golfing life is rarely disrupted by the changing weather. Though we experience winter here, our soil remains rich and afternoons are still warmed by the sunshine. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are both home to award-winning golf courses and welcome non-members to tee-off alongside the regulars. So take it easy and go ahead and pack those golf pants and head on over to Orange Beach Golf Center appropriately located in OB on Easy Street. Annual memberships as well as basic green fees  for residents and non-residents are available and non-member green fees for walking plus with cart availability.  This state-of-the-art range is open daily, including Sunday’s and starts as early as 7 AM. It’s time to plan that winter vacation and don’t put up the clubs yet the Gulf Coast weather is ripe for this game.

As the weather cools off, everyone on the island is reaching for their favorite sweatshirts and pullovers as our true winter weather hasn't started yet. The wharf store in Orange Beach has just the right soft materials and warmer not too warm attire to fit the whole family's fall comfy wardrobe. The wharf is a full stop all-inclusive spot for islanders and visitors with music, marlin weigh-ins, shopping, good eats, boat tours and even a movie theater. There is no limit to the number of adventure possibilities. Spend the day walking the grounds taking your time in each shop getting a personal one-on-one experience along the way. Stop in one of the restaurants and enjoy a meal, then in your warm snuggling new Crewneck sweatshirt take a ride on the ferris wheel, grab some hot chocolate and head on over to the theater for a show or the marina for a fall boat ride. Make sure to bring that Christmas list with you and get ahead by stocking up the stocking stuffers and office gifts with mugs, stickers, coffee, and more. For more information, click here.

Music awakens our senses like the food sense with smell and will forever be a timeless connection for people from all walks of life. Whether you grew up down South, in the West, or on another Continent, a familiar Holiday kitchen smell or a tune you grew up hearing can unite the strangest of pairing even if just for a little while. The Gulf Coast is no stranger to traditions that include both and honor it all with new and old raw talent. Cindy Morgan, Walt Aldridge, and Marcus Hummon for the upcoming Frank Brown Songwriters Festival will hit the stage starting at 7 PM for a songwriters showcase at OWA theater. The event's name is rightfully coined “The Heart behind the Music.” Hear some of the hit songs recorded and written by these incredible songwriters in an intimate relaxed environment that will make all guests feel right at home. All tickets for the show are general admission first come first served style with the exception of early bird online tickets purchased before midnight on November 6th, if ordering before this date, enjoy a $5 discount with code FBISF.

Home of the “build your own” seafood platter, Bubba’s Seafood house ranks as one of the top local choices since 1997 as well as island visitors. A name easy to remember with a taste from the fryer that brings guests back time and time again. Most local restaurants offer a variety of freshly fried, grilled and baked seafood but not all bring the delectable and juicy steamed options like the crab legs. Guests can enjoy a menu list full of fresh seafood choices, salads and daily lunch specials. If you like to tempt the taste buds with all things under the sea, like fish, crab and clam strips, the seafood platter is just the right catch for your day. This restaurant has all the room for large events and big family style table seating, so bring all the kids and fill the seats while filling your bellies. Not to worry about missing all your favorite sporting updates and games Bubba’s inside and outdoor seating offers the Big Screen to help keep everyone in the family happy. Bubba’s loves a big family and kids and their extensive kids menu reflects that love, also home to the largest kids sandbox on the island for the antsy little ones whose attention spans are limited to two bites and done. Invite the neighborhood and make it an afternoon and evening of fun for all ages.
