Is Your Cart Ready For The Season?

News Staff • March 19, 2025

Golf Cart Inspections are required along beach communities

As the days get warmer there are more residents traveling the area in their golf carts. Many owners are checking their batteries and safety equipment for the season. Gulf Shores recently held an inspection/ permit meeting and the City of Orange Beach will be doing the same this Saturday.

The City of Gulf Shores has designated certain streets for golf cart use. The rules and inspection process are detailed on the city's official website. They ask that cart owners take into consideration that the operation of a golf cart on designated cart streets is a privilege. Gulf Shores Police Department and the city reserve the right to revoke and deny any golf cart registration which is deemed necessary. Stay safe and follow the traffic laws.

The Orange Beach Police Department has scheduled its next round of golf cart inspections for 2025.

Inspections will take place on Saturday, March 22, Saturday, April 26, and Saturday, May 24. All events will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the front parking lot of Orange Beach City Hall. These are the last opportunities for golf cart owners to renew their permits.

Once renewed, permits will remain valid for four years. The city advises that inspection dates may change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Recently, the market for street-legal golf carts in the U.S. has grown significantly as more cities and communities adopt regulations allowing their use on designated roads. These Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) are becoming increasingly popular in coastal towns, retirement communities, and suburban neighborhoods due to their convenience, lower operating costs, and environmental benefits compared to traditional vehicles. Many manufacturers now produce models equipped with essential safety features such as headlights, turn signals, seat belts, and rearview mirrors to comply with federal and local road requirements. With rising fuel prices and a greater emphasis on eco-friendly transportation, the demand for street-legal golf carts continues to rise, making them a practical and economical choice for short-distance travel in urban and resort areas.

Currently, the City of Orange Beach is adding a new path that will go from William Silvers Parkway and The Wharf.
