Jimmy Buffett Day is August 30th

Jimmy Buffett Day Gulf Shores

There are so many stories about the kindness and good times Jimmy Buffett brought to the community. Though the beach concert after the oil spill would have to be near the top. If you speak with locals who were in the area during the early years they have plenty of tales concerning songs and nightlife. Today we celebrate all of the wonderful contributions he made to millions of lives through his music and charity.

Jimmy Buffett Day has been officially recognized as August 30, 2024, as a tribute to the iconic singer-songwriter known for his laid-back music and tropical lifestyle. This day was established by the Florida Legislature to honor Buffett’s impact on both music and culture. The celebration aims to recognize Buffett's free-spirited approach to life and his significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Florida and beyond. The State has even designed a new vanity license plate in his honor.

Events surrounding Jimmy Buffett Day are set to take place across various Margaritaville properties, including special activities, live music, and themed events that align with Buffett's famous "Margaritaville" brand. The initiative is a part of broader efforts to celebrate his life and legacy following his passing on September 1, 2023, after battling Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare form of skin cancer.

Where to celebrate Jimmy’s life and music locally? Many play his music on a daily basis but two locations are a great place to start.

LuLu’s Gulf Shores

A great place to remember the fun times is always LuLu’s. Friday night with Cadillac Attack performing on the indoor stage. Over the weekend they’ll have bands playing outside on their Crazy Sista Stage on with The Cordial Brothers from 6 to 10pm on Saturday and The Selma Boys on Sunday from 6 to 10pm.

The last words that Jimmy shared with Lucy were, “Have Fun!” and that’s what they plan to do in his honor this weekend.

Flora-Bama Yacht Club

The Flora-Bama Yacht Club is joining the celebration of Jimmy Buffett Day by offering a special themed promotion. Visitors can enjoy a "Cheeseburger & Margarita Special" priced at $16, perfectly capturing the tropical, laid-back vibe that Buffett's music and lifestyle famously represent. Set against the backdrop of palm trees and beach scenery, this special event aims to honor Buffett's influence on coastal culture and his iconic "Margaritaville" spirit. As a popular coastal venue known for its lively atmosphere, Flora-Bama is embracing the essence of Jimmy Buffett Day, providing locals and visitors alike a chance to celebrate his music, legacy, and love for the good life by the sea.
