gulf shores sports news

Tickets are now available for the Makos Academics, Arts, and Athletics Club (MAAAC) Gala, sponsored by Perdido Beach Resort. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024.

All proceeds from ticket and table sales will support the MAAAC Annual Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Orange Beach. The silent auction proceeds will support educational programs for Orange Beach City School students.

Tables of 12 seats are available for $1,500 each, while individual tickets are $150. Local educators can buy tickets for $50 this year with the special code MAAAC24.

During this year’s gala, the first-ever MAAAC Impact Award will be presented to Kelly Cleere, a local educator and math tutor. She will be recognized for her service to Orange Beach City Schools and the community.

Shelli Semiklose, the Gala Chair, praised Kelly, stating, "Kelly's dedication to her students and her unwavering support for Orange Beach City Schools have truly had a positive and lasting impact on all of us. This is our opportunity to say thank you.”

Tickets can be purchased through the sponsor,
Perdido Beach Resort. Penny Groux, Director of Corporate Affairs for Perdido Beach Resort, expressed excitement about hosting the event.

"We are honored to be hosting the 5th annual MAAAC Gala and share our support for the Orange Beach City Schools on August 10, 2024," said Penny Groux. "Hosting this event each year is a highlight for our resort, and we are thrilled to unite with the community to raise funds for the MAAAC Scholarship Fund and the many extracurricular activities the school offers. This event not only celebrates the achievements of our students, but also reinforces our commitment to their future success. We look forward to a night of community, music, dancing, and giving back to our local schools.”

The silent auction, chaired by Cindy Long, will feature items to help raise money for Orange Beach Elementary School and Orange Beach Middle High School. The auction committee includes Marlo Webb, Monica Covington, and Lindsey Sloan.

Each year, MAAAC sponsors fundraising events and organizes volunteers to support Orange Beach K-12 students. Since its inception in 2019, MAAAC has raised and distributed more than $1.5 million.
