Orange Beach has been facing an avalanche of new building request in recent months. Two more are now in front of the City Council and one of the projects is being proposed by local contractor, Greg Kennedy.
A public hearing will be part of the City Council meeting. The subject is to amend the zoning ordinance so a planned unit development for 3.7 acres at the southwest corner of the Canal Road and Captain Trent Lane intersection. Developer Greg Kennedy wants to put 33 single-family residences on the parcel. The planning commission gave an unfavorable recommendation on the project at the May meeting.
Springhill Suites will be the subject of another public hearing on a modification of a planned unit development for a new Springhill Suites under construction on the north side of beach road between Sharky’s (old Live Bait) and Doc’s Seafood and Steaks. The change deals with buffering on the north side of the lot and changing roof features on the hotel. A total of 120 rooms are proposed, and the building will be seven stories.
