Almost everywhere you travel in the nation people ask about where is the best dive bar and cheese burger joints are located. This culinary trend has only become stronger in recent years. One survey company interviewed thousands of patrons around the country and introduced their list. Two are in the area!


Geek Nexus is a national survey company who discovered that beyond the neon signs and old bar stools, there is a culinary revolution happening. The nations top dive bars surprisingly serve good and comforting food.


The island locals could have easily told them of the TOP 2 in the State of Alabama which made the list. Here are the best from the top to the bottom dive:


1. The Vortex, Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta’s The Vortex in the top spot redefines burgers with an inventive selection of unforgettable creations. This hotspot is the perfect destination for anyone looking to elevate their burger game.


2. Rudy's Bar and Grill, New York City, New York.

Known for its legendary free hot dogs, Rudy’s Bar and Grill in Hell’s Kitchen is a dive bar staple that captures the essence of New York snacking—simple, tasty, and undeniably iconic.


3. Flora-Bama, Perdido Key, Florida.

Situated on the Gulf Coast, Flora-Bama is a beachfront gem that combines fresh seafood, lively music, and a relaxed vibe. It’s a go-to spot for soaking in the laid-back Gulf Coast lifestyle.


4. Port of Call, New Orleans, Louisiana.

5. Triple Nickel Tavern, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Well that is the TOP 10, but if you read their full list... at Number #11 is THE COVE in Gulf Shores. Long known to locals for great lunches and Happy Hours. Only one other bar was chosen in Alabama and it was the Garage in Birmingham. They ranked 29th on the national list.

Governor Kay Ivey expressed support Wednesday for House Bill 437, which would establish a shark attack or unusual shark activity alert system in Alabama. The bill, which is sponsored by State Rep. David Faulkner (R-Hoover), was inspired by Lulu Gribbin, a Mountain Brook teen who survived a shark attack last summer off the coast of Florida.

In 2024 the State of Alabama enacted a Seafood Labeling Law for restaurants and other outlets within it's boundaries. A testing laboratory released a statement that "43% of Restaurants Serve Imported Shrimp" but would not mention the names of the outlets. They have made these allegations in 2024 as well. When editors of our news asked for proof of their methods and process we were referred to the business website.
