"A Work of Art" caught a massive Bluefin Tuna during the Orange Beach Billfish Classic tournament. They may even have an Alabama State record on board. Wednesday at 6PM the official weigh-in for all the entries will take place on Main Street at The Wharf.

The Orange Beach Billfish Classic was formed in 1996 for the express purpose of providing financial support for organizations that speak effectively for recreational fishermen. The OBBC quickly became a top event on the Gulf Coast and serves as a major fundraiser for The Billfish Foundation. Since it’s inception the OBBC has donated over $1,000,000 to TBF and other qualified conservation organizations.

The OBBC includes tuna, wahoo and dolphin (mahi) in it’s optional cash categories but is primarily a blue marlin tournament and traditionally attracts first rate, competitive fishing teams with a passion for sportfishing from across the Gulf of Mexico. Prize money, not including optional cash categories, pays out to landed blue marlin and catch and release billfish.

Due to inclement weather, the start of the tournament had been delayed a few days. Wednesday evening will mark the end of this year's event and the anticipation of a State Record will make the festivities more intense.

UPDATE:

Work of Art brought in this year's biggest bluefin tuna at the Orange Beach Billfish Classic. At over 724 pounds is was a whopper. The State Record for Alabama is 829 pounds, caught back in 2006. But they were not done, after showing off a 111" marlin they also caught. The crew on Work of Art deserve a round of applause for the great catches!

In recent years people have applied for business licenses on the beach which include jet ski rentals, banana boat rides, private party catering, chair services and the never ending amount of weddings. Orange Beach will take a new city ordinance to further prohibit “commercial activity” on beaches, shorelines and waterways in the city. “There have been some business licenses that have come through recently that we needed some clarification on,” Deputy Coastal Resources Director Nicole Woerner said. “We just don’t want our beaches to be overrun and our waterways with people just selling and doing all kinds of things.”
