The first week of October is packed with events and activities along the Gulf Coast, offering something for everyone to enjoy. From book club gatherings and live music performances to outdoor fitness sessions and cultural celebrations, the vibrant communities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are coming together to make this week one to remember. 


Whether you’re looking to unwind with a good read, embrace the natural beauty of the area, or cheer on local firefighters in competition, there are plenty of ways to connect, relax, and have fun throughout the week.


Monday, September, 30th -
 Tonight marks the start of the first ‘Books & Brews book club’ at BuzzCatz in Orange Beach. Everyone is welcome to join as the group discusses the most popular books of the summer, “The Women.” A book is written by New York Times Best selling author, Kristin Hannah highlighting deep friendships, true heroism and female solidarity. To find out more, stop by for the buzz and a drink of your choice from Luna’s Bar or the BuzzCatz caffeinated menu. Be sure to connect with the Orange Beach Public Library for the schedule and find out what’s next for the book loving gang. BuzzCatz and Luna’s are sister venue’s both serving different delicious food and beverage items at various times of the day. The group will meet from 4-7 PM inside BuzzCatz finishing up with enough time to walk down the veranda for dinner at Luna’s.

Tuesday, October 1st - 
Though sleepy little beach towns are mostly a thing of the past, certain off season perks still remain a cozy outlook. Such as taking advantage of clearer roads allowing for better familiarity of the layout of the lands, shops, and more, open coastline views and relaxed one-on-one conversations with local staff. CoastAL in Orange Beach offers a grand view of the city from one side and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico from the other. Lunch or dinner comes with prime white sandy beach access that is only offered to locals and CoastAL day guests. The Beach Bar offers daily live music with signature cocktails, and selected menu. Wednesday, October 2nd -
 If you enjoy connecting with nature while staying in shape embracing the cooler weather, ‘Wellness Wednesday’ may be just the fit for you. The Gulf State Park has partnered with Glow Yoga, Swim with Mo and the Neighborhood Barre for a rejuvenating escape from the enclosure of gyms to soak up the sun and all the outdoor workout life has to offer. To start this special collaborating series off, Neighborhood Barre will lead a class at the Lake Shelby picnic area from 8:30AM-11:30AM. Make sure to bring your own yoga mat or comfortable towel for the practice and plenty of water for hydration. Each week on hump day, another group will feature an outdoor physical activity open to all at no cost. Registration is preferred but not required.

Thursday, October 3rd -
 Orange Beach singer/songwriter Mr. Chris Beverly invites fans 21 and up to come out and experience one of his quality shows. Beverly sprinkles some of every genre into his performances and often shares an island stage with the lead singer of “Saucy FuzZ” fellow songwriter, Mason Henderson. Both Henderson and Beverley have grown up on and around the many stages of the world-famous bar, “Flora-Bama Lounge and Package” each shaped for their own paths not neglecting to jam together from time to time. Catch this dynamic duo at Island Time Daiquiris for some expected good tunes and some unexpected tune up treats unique with every performance. Come early and find your crew and get comfy before the show starting at 8PM and ripping through to midnight.

Friday, October 4th -
 Bama Coast Cruisin’ is an inclusive show that welcomes anyone who loves cars and enjoys cruisin’ the open road. With help from the City of Orange Beach and several local businesses, they have created a unique, family friendly and fun filled weekend event at one of the most beautiful vacation destinations in the nation. The cars are lined down main street at the Wharf for your viewing.

Saturday, October 5th -
 Orange Beach Freedom Fest is back. Friday kicks off with Orange Beach police and fire on site offering demonstrations along with all the other daily fun like Bama Coast Crusin’. Saturday additions include the coveted jeep rally and noon cruise. A brand-new addition this year brought to you by the non-profit organization, ‘Gulf Coast Gun Collectors and Association,’ will be open Saturday and Sunday only for a small fee. During the show times, patrons will have the opportunity to walk through and appreciate the collectibles including children 15 and under with supervision. Come out and celebrate freedom and community for Orange Beach’s 4th annual ‘Freedom Fest’ located at the Wharf.

Sunday, October 6th - 
Fall’s not all Pumpkin Spice Lattes and apple orchards some find good ole traditional ‘OktoberFest’ just as crisp and ripe for the season. German heritage runs deep into the history of ‘OktoberFest’ with flavorful beer crafts, kraut and more. Flora-Bama is hosting its annual event to leap into the holiday season with one big themed party from 3-6PM. Music fittingly so, will buy “The Brats,” 21 and up will receive a free drink coupon upon entry and 25% off in the gift shop. There will be a bountiful German buffet, first come, first served, a stein hoisting competition and more. Dinner will start immediately after the hoisting at 4PM and includes Beer Brats, Sauerkraut, and German Potato Salad. For those planning to arrive late to the line Flora-Bama will have their main menus offered around site.

The Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Fest is set to take place this weekend, February 22nd & 23rd at The Beach Club Resort & Spa. The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. This year's festival features several improvements, including daily ticket caps to control crowds and prevent long lines.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Alabama's 14th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is set for Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23, 2025. During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
