The Battle of Mobile Bay, which took place on August 5, 1864, was a pivotal naval engagement during the Civil War. Led by Admiral David Farragut, Union forces sought to secure one of the Confederacy's last major ports on the Gulf of Mexico. The battle is famously remembered for Farragut's command, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" Despite facing mines (then called torpedoes) and fierce resistance from Confederate forces, the Union fleet triumphed, marking a significant victory that bolstered Northern morale and tightened the blockade of Southern ports.
