Friday, September 20th - Celebrate the life and legacy of Mr Kenneth Lane Vines aka ‘KV’ this weekend for the Kenny Vines Memorial Tournament. Vines, who was a passionate sports fisherman and Orange Beach local for over 30 years, cast his last line in 2011. The tournament, however, pays homage to KV’s roots with a memory or fishing tale cast out with each participant's line. Remembered for many achievements, KV’s greatest impression remains in his rep for an unwavering dedication to the coastal community he called home. As it goes, fishing tournaments are surrounded by sponsors, teams and some serious prizes, to keep it reel as they say this tournament is anything but. The Orange Beach Fishing Club presents a ‘fun-filled tourney’ where it’s about more than just the money purse. The leaders instead place a large emphasis on the time spent being enjoyable where many allow their kiddos to cast the lines while reminiscing on fishing days gone by. The KVMT encourages bringing anglers of all ages to this exciting event where many of the prizes will be won by the junior anglers and everyone is aiming for a good time. Saturday, September 21st - With the wind and the waves, a lot of unwanted particles blow in and around these little beach towns, clogging up the waterways and beaches with trash and items that can create all manner of problems for the creatures that frequent the lands and salt beneath. Clean-up initiatives have grown increasingly more popular with volunteer numbers almost doubling each year. If you would like to be a part of keeping the Alabama coastline clean for the cause, join the state's largest volunteer event for its 37th Annual clean-up event. Not only is this the largest, but it’s also the longest with pick-up hours starting as early as 8 AM running through noon. Three location zones are panned out across land and water for those willing to bring a kayak and join the water team crew. Registration is onsite for each location. For more information and location addresses, please visit the link below. “Get the trash out of the Splash” by being a part of something bigger than yourself and maybe meet some new clean-up friends along the way.
