Walk And Roll Day Encourages Healthy Habits

Local schools promote a day of walking, biking and health

We have all heard some version of the "In My Day" stories, right? Your parents or grandparents had to walk for miles to school, uphill, in a blizzard or in pouring-down rain to get to school ... both ways! Of course, we don’t advocate children walking for miles in extreme conditions but a little exercise each day doesn’t hurt.
Students, parents, and teachers in Baldwin County are preparing to lace up their sneakers for the Annual Spring Walk event. The walk promotes healthy transportation, safer communities, and environmental support.
The Baldwin County Safe Routes to School Coalition is leading the event again this year. The group includes the Baldwin County Trailblazers, Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization, Baldwin County Commission, Legislative Delegation, and all three public school systems.
Walk and Roll to School Day is set for May 7, 2025. Students will meet at designated spots and walk a mile or less to their schools to celebrate fitness and community connections.
Participating schools include:
- Fairhope West Elementary
- Fairhope East Elementary
- Summerdale School
- Gulf Shores City Schools
- Orange Beach Elementary
- Baldwin County Virtual School
- St. Patrick Catholic School
- Florence B. Mathis Elementary (will participate a day earlier on May 6th)
The Annual Spring Walk offers a simple way to be part of a healthier and stronger community. Everyone is encouraged to walk, roll, or cheer for students during the event.
