Gulf Shores will consider several items owned by the city as surplus and place them, including seven vehicles, on govdeals.com for auction in September. The city council will address the items at the Sept. 3 work session meeting.

This week, the council will meet on a Tuesday because of the Labor Day holiday but at the regular time, 4 p.m., in council chambers at city hall.

Among the vehicles available are:

  •  A 2015 Chevy Tahoe, a 2016 Chevy Tahoe and a 2006 Ford van from the police department
  •  A 2009 Jeep Wrangler and a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup from the Streets Department
  •  A 2012 Chevy Silverado from the Engineering Department
  •  A 2007 Ford F-150 pickup from the Custodial Department

The auction will begin Sept. 10 at 5 a.m. and close on Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. Interested buyers can review auction items only by appointment at the Public Works campus located at 19901 W. 36th Ave. Call 251-968-1441 or send an email to tjames@gulfshoresal.gov to schedule an appointment.

During the work session, the council will also:

  • Discuss approving liquor licenses for High Tide Daiquiris and Mimosas at 610 W. Beach Boulevard and the Holiday Inn Express at 160 W. Commerce Ave.
  • Consider the 2025 calendar for municipal court dates.
  • Discuss a budget amendment to adjust for a $6.4 million increase in revenues including $1.9 million in sales taxes, $2.3 million in lodging taxes and $600,000 in use taxes. The amendment also noted a $1.9 million increase in impact fees.
  • Consider an annexation request for a 1.94 parcel on Landward Drive west of State Route 59 and north of West 36th Avenue. Staff will recommend the council approve the request.
  • Consider a tri-party agreement to have the Alabama Independent School Association’s track and field championships at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex on April 10-11 in 2025 and April 9-10 in 2026.
  • Discuss an assembly permit for the Meeting of the Minds 2024 Parrothead event Oct. 23-27 at the Beachview Condominiums.
