ALDOT released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruling:

"With the Baldwin County Bridge Company's request for a rehearing denied and the Supreme Court's previous ruling in favor of ALDOT now finalized, ALDOT's bridge contractor, Scott Bridge Company, has been directed to resume work immediately.

The Supreme Court's decision today is a victory for ALDOT's effort to complete a toll-free bridge that will reduce traffic congestion to and from Alabama's Gulf Coast beach communities. We are gratified that the Court ruled in our favor so we can get back to work on a project that is sorely needed."

Work on a controversial bridge connecting Gulf Shores to mainland Baldwin County that was stopped earlier this year is reportedly set to resume soon.

The Alabama Supreme Court denied a rehearing from the Baldwin County Bridge Company (BCBC), green-lighting the way for Scott Bridge Company, the bridge company selected for the South Baldwin County project, to resume work.

Work on the bridge was halted in May after the BCBC asked for an emergency injunction as they pursued legal action.

BCBC claimed ALDOT director John Cooper's move to build the bridge was a predatory act to put the private bridge operator out of business.
