The Gulf Shores Police Department invites local residents to join them at Starbucks inside of the Target Store on October 29th. The session will start at 11am and continue until 1pm. Their invitation states "No speeches or specific topics. Just informal conversations about what matters to our community. An opportunity to problem solve with the people our officers serve."


The Orange Beach Police Department (OBPD) is inviting the community to join officers for a cup of coffee and conversation at the Southern Grind Coffee House at The Wharf one week from today, Wednesday, October 2nd. The event, part of the nationwide "Coffee with a Cop" initiative, will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and aims to foster positive interactions between law enforcement professionals and the residents they serve.


Coffee with a Cop Day, celebrated across the United States, encourages communities and law enforcement to come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues and learn more about each other. The event is designed to break down the barriers that can often exist between police officers and the members of the community.


The concept of Coffee with a Cop was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011. Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for a way to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day. The idea was simple: officers would invite their residents to join them for coffee at a local meeting spot where they could discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee. With a successful format that allowed participants to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in their neighborhood, the program has expanded nationwide and is celebrated in all 50 states, having also spread to Canada, Europe, Australia, and Africa.


The event at Southern Grind this Wednesday offers an opportunity for residents of Orange Beach to ask questions, bring up concerns, and get to know the officers who patrol their neighborhoods. This initiative reflects OBPD's commitment to building trust and establishing open lines of communication with the community it serves.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.
