Foley Expected To Approve 258 Lot Development

New development approvals expand the City of Foley

Growth in the City of Foley is expected to continue. The Foley Planning Commission will review several requests for approvals of subdivisions located in the city limits and the city’s planning jurisdiction including a 258-lot development located east of County Road 65 and south of Dairy Lane. Staff is expected to recommend approval.

 

The commission will have a regular session on Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

 

During the meeting, the commission will also consider:

 

  • A request for a three-month extension for Foley Crossings a 66.18-acre development in 18 lots at the northeast corner of County Road 65 and County Road 26 in the city’s planning jurisdiction. Staff will recommend approval.
  • A request for approval of the Vier Subdivision a 37.77-acre parcel in three lots located at the southeast corner of North McKenzie Street and County Road 24. Staff will recommend approval.
  • A request for approval of Emerald Coast Estates and 34.09 acres and three lots located in the northeast corner of County Road 65 and Dairy Lane in the city’s planning jurisdiction. Staff will recommend approval.
  • A request for approval of Bella Vista Townhomes subdivision on 19.34 acres and two lots located at 105 Cody Lane. Staff will recommend approval.
  • Two requests from the city for approval of the Airport Drive subdivision on 16.84 acres and seven lots located south of Underwood Road and north of West Fern Avenue. The second from the city consists of 14.82 acres and two lots also located south of Underwood Road and north of West Fern Avenue. Staff will recommend approval for both requests.
  • A rezoning request for 2.2 acres located east of south Juniper Street and north of East Michigan Avenue. The applicant seeks to change the zoning from single-family residential to planned unit development. Staff will recommend denial of the request.
  • A request for the approval of a planned unit development for the Fern Medical Complex located east of North McKenzie Street and north of East Berry Street and consisting of 12 acres. Staff will recommend approval.
  • A request for a modification to the plan for The Waters at OWA multi-family development located north of Miflin Road and west of the Foley Beach Express. Staff will recommend approval with conditions.

Kris Anderson, a senior partner of Yates Anderson law firm in Orange Beach, apologized to the Mayor and City Council saying he may have "jumped the gun" with the lawsuit. However, Mayor Tony Kennon accused Anderson of trying to act like "Superman," being a "despicable individual," and painting the community in a racist light.
