Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – On August 27, 2023, at around 4:10 a.m., Foley Police Department officers were dispatched to the 22000 block of Atterbrock Lane. The call was in response to a report of a man with a gunshot wound to the head. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 55-year-old Don Cantrell of Foley, who stated that he had been shot by an acquaintance during an altercation.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene and transported Cantrell to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. His injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.

During the subsequent investigation, officers located Kevin James Magnant, 36, also of Foley, at his residence near the scene. Magnant was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. A search of Magnant's residence yielded a .22 caliber rifle and a pipe with drug residue.
