Children Invited to Learn About K-9 Units

Gulf Shores area news

The Foley Police Department and the library will host the event to educate the public about how police dogs and their handlers work together. The program includes demonstrations of the K-9 team’s skills and their role in protecting the community.

Local children will get the chance to learn how K-9 officers help keep Foley safe during the Kids & K-9s event at Foley Public Library on Saturday, September 28th.

The event begins at 10 a.m. behind the library in the grassy area. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for seating. The event is free and open to the public.

The Foley Public Library is located at 319 East Laurel Avenue.

The Foley Police K-9 Unit plays a big part in the city's events and protection. A City of Foley Director stated “The Foley Police Department has assisted Foley Sports Tourism during so many events, keeping all of our visitors and athletes safe for the duration of their stay.”  Those officers, who usually work quietly behind the scenes, get to take center stage in this program. The City added that they are extremely proud of our police force and the work they do every day to keep up with rigorous standards aimed at protecting our city. Now they can share the K-9's with local young residents.

In recent years people have applied for business licenses on the beach which include jet ski rentals, banana boat rides, private party catering, chair services and the never ending amount of weddings. Orange Beach will take a new city ordinance to further prohibit “commercial activity” on beaches, shorelines and waterways in the city. “There have been some business licenses that have come through recently that we needed some clarification on,” Deputy Coastal Resources Director Nicole Woerner said. “We just don’t want our beaches to be overrun and our waterways with people just selling and doing all kinds of things.”
