The closure of Juniper Street near Miflin Road has been announced to facilitate the final phase of its extension to Alabama 59. The project has involved contractors extending Juniper Street from Miflin Road and Baldwin County 20 to Alabama 59. In the concluding phase, the alignment of Juniper Street will be adjusted to match the new extension.
Mayor Ralph Hellmich stated that detours are essential for the completion of the project. He elaborated that traffic would likely be rerouted via Pride Drive to Alabama 59 and then to Baldwin County 20. Signage will be in place to guide local traffic. The mayor acknowledged that the project would take several months to complete and would inconvenience many who use the road.
Jeff Phillips, the Construction Projects Manager for Foley, indicated that the change is imminent. Discussions are underway between city officials and contractors to finalize the commencement date for the work and the detours. During the construction period, traffic will be rerouted to East Pride Boulevard and then to Miflin Road. Juniper Street south of Pride Boulevard will remain accessible for local traffic to destinations such as Tanger Outlet Mall, Wade Distributors, Foley Riviera Lie, and the Gulf Bowl.
The project's scope also includes the installation of new mast arms, mast arm poles, and signal heads. Additionally, new sidewalks, curbs, gutters, a transition curb, and milling of transitions for new paving will be completed. The project aims to extend Juniper Street south from Miflin Road, turning southwest and then west to connect with Alabama 59 at Baldwin County 20 South. The total estimated cost for the project stands at approximately $4.53 million.
