Things to do in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach this week

things to do in gulf shores

As families prepare for upcoming Holidays we've prepared a list of stops and shops with traditions old and new that are sure to light up this beach town.

Ready to vibe for business after hours or watch your child build their dreams one lego at a time? This week's line up has a little something to spark everyone’s needs and desires with community givebacks, Christmas tree lighting, good eats, and more musical talent from the Frank Brown Songwriters. Let's dive right into a brand new week on the Gulf Coast.

Gulf Shores News

Monday, Nov 13th - The sun may be going down earlier each day, but that hasn't stopped the sandy shores from calling. This is a perfect time of the year to walk the beaches for early morning sunrises and early evening sunsets. Midday guests and locals can expect to see beachgoers still soaking up the day rays and some even cooling off their sandy toes in the salty water. For the one seeking solitude with nothing but gorgeous skies, the sounds of waves, and birds a calling times around the sun's rising and setting are recommended. Cotton Bayou Beach is a great place to start these walkabouts. This public beach is located 7 miles east of Alabama Highway 59 and .1 mile east of Orange Beach Blvd or (AL Hwy 161.) Just a short walk from the car to the shores you’ll find two boardwalk options to follow along to the open sand. Restrooms are available and outdoor showers if you need more than a shake to get the sand off. Don’t forget to bring something a little warmer to ensure the temperature for this adventure is as  pleasant as the sights you will see.

Flora-Bama Oysters

Tuesday, Nov 14th - Calling all Oyster lovers, oyster season is underway. Everybody loves a good beach bar, even better one that serves up not your average beach bar menu style food. The Flora Bama not only comes with a beautiful horizon view, good drinks and music but they also happen to have a pretty extensive oyster menu. Fresh shucked to order raw oysters with a nice cold beer really sets the season off right. Not into the simple pleasures not to worry the Bama has you and your oysters covered literally. Offering tasty baked and grilled McClellan’s Cajun style, Butter Parmesan and even samplers the only thing guests will leave on these plates are the empty shells. Make sure to stick around and head to the Main Room for more tantalizing treats. Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival season has arrived and starting at 9:30 PM fan favorite Mason Henderson will take the main stage. Make it a day with the Bama that carries on into a musically delightful night.

Wednesday, Nov 15th - Looking to freshen or tighten up the boat ride before next summer season let Saunders Yachtworks and their staff of master craftsmen get to work. Handling everything from damage and repair to custom carpentry and “all levels of project complexity.” No need to be concerned about the weather and storage intervening with production causing delays both Saunders locations offer fully enclosed work buildings and “nearly an acre of combined protected space.” A few services include but are not limited to haul outs, vessel systems, diesel engine building and repair, boatyard crafts and electronics. Put your mind at ease over the Holiday breaks and let the experts handle all your boating needs. After securing your boat with Saunders take the 2 minute drive to Lulu’s homeport for a spicy lunch and we don’t just mean the food. The atmosphere at Lulu’s brings the heat all year long adding to it a few signature dishes and drinks like the bushwacker bringing that summer jive we all strive to hold on to. If you're bringing the boat to Saunders Marine Center instead take an even shorter drive from there on down to Tacky Jacks Orange Beach for a similar taste of the lasting season or better yet try both and decide for yourself which bushwacker is your groups favorite.

Lego Club in Gulf Shores

Friday, Nov 17th - Ever visited the local library and wondered just who builds the window box designs and how they are chosen. Orange Beach Public Library features little local builders each month and all they have to do is join their peers at 4 PM for LEGO CLUB and let their best work shine for all passerbyers to see. Simply show up and get creating all lego’s provided by the library with a special thanks for local donations. Feel free to make it a team effort with a pal, a parent to assist along the way or just let them work solo. Once completed let the librarian know and together the mini designers can land all creations into the display per size order until the next LEGO CLUB meet up. After an early evening of using all your best brain tools, pop next door to a fabulous family friendly restaurant for dinner, GT’s on the Bay.
