The 0-1 Gulf Shores Dolphins traveled this week to Semmes, Alabama to face 7A Mary G. Montgomery Vikings. This was the first game played on the new field of MGM and the Dolphins wanted to give the Vikings a loss for their first stomp on the field. The Champion Dolphins have been playing above their ranking for their first games of the year.


 Sunny 105.7 carries each game live on the radio station. David DeJean and Mark Swalley will be calling the games each week.


FIRST HALF:

The game started with a trick play from the Vikings who attempted an onside kick. The Dolphins Landon Everett recovered and Gulf Shores started in Viking's territory.


After a quick 3 and out, Gulf Shores punted the ball to MGM's Vikings.


The Dolphins defense applied pressure to the Viking's running game. The Mary Montgomery Vikings ripped a long run to the 40 yard line but fumbled and the Gulf Shores Dolphins recovered.


The Dolphins drove the ball down inside deep of the Vikings side of field. Carter David and Dobbins carried the ball for gains inside the MGM 20 yard line. Kolin Wilson ran down to the three but the Dolphins later lost the ball in a turnover.


Landon Everett and the Dolphin's defense played tough but were plagued with penalties. MGM threw for a long pass and scored a touchdown. After the missed  PAT the score was 6-0 with MGM leading.


Gulf Shores received the ball placed on their own 17 yard line. Dobbins of Gulf Shores drove the ball near mid-field. Wilson then ripped a long run to the 13 yard line. Wilson later ran the ball 13 yards for a touchdown. After a PAT by Barkley, the Gulf Shores Dolphins led the game 7-6.


After receiving the kickoff, MGM had the ball on their own 35 yard line. Jamichael Garrett stopped the Vikings after a run from scrimmage for 15 yards to mid-field. The quarter ended.


The Vikings continued their running game but Gulf Shores stopped their drive. After a penalty the Vikings and a sack the Vikings were 3rd down and 21. After an incomplete pass MGM punted to Gulf Shores.


Dolphins received the ball on their own 18 yard line. Kolin Wilson lead the charge rushing. He ran for a first down. Play calling by the Dolphins included a jet sweep and a fake was given to Kolin Wilson for a big gain to the MGM 47 yard line. Landon Everett lined up in the backfield and lost the ball on a fumble.


MGM Vikings ran the ball up to the forty. The Vikings drove across midfield and the yardage was extended by an unsportsmanlike call against Gulf Shores. MGM punched the ball into the endzone and after a successful two-point conversion the score was 14-7  in favor of the MGM Vikings.


With six minutes left in the first half the Dolphins received the kickoff on their own 35. Kolin Wilson ran the first play from scrimmage for 65 yards and a touchdown. After the PAT by Barkley the game was tied 14-14.


Upon kickoff, the MGM Vikings had the ball on their own 20 yard line. The Vikings returned to their running game and ran the ball to midfield. Malone of Gulf Shores helped to stuff the Viking's offense. With 4th down and 14 yards remaining MGM got a delay of game. They then punted to the Dolphins who took the ball at their own 31.


Davis and the Dolphins ran the ball up the center. Kolin Wilson broke out for a big run for 50 yards. With less than 2 minutes until the half, the Dolphins were not able to run the ball in. With 4th and 14 Gulf Shores kicked their first field goal of the season making  it a Dolphin lead of 17-14.


MGM received the kickoff and began their drive from their own 33 yard line. They made gains but the half ended with Gulf Shores still in the lead.


  • Kolin Wilson had 299 yards of offense in the first half of the game.


SECOND HALF:

Dolphins received the ball to start the second half. Wilson returned the ball to the 27. MGM's defense starting to key in on Wilson but he still ran for a first down. No more progress was made and Gulf Shores punted to MGM. The Vikings took over at their own 14 yard line.


Vikings ran for a first down. MGM ran several quick count runs up the middle. After getting to midfield the Dolphins defense held strong. MGM was forced to punt. Gulf Shores received the ball at their own 30.


Gulf Shores ran the ball and the Vikings were penalized for unsportsmanlike. The ball in now at the 50. MGM defense focused on Wilson and held the Dolphins. Gulf Shores punted and the Vikings fumbled the ball.  Gulf Shores recovered.


With the ball on the Vikings 16, Gulf Shores tried to run but did not make progress. On a 4th down the Dolphins attempted a 37 yard field goal but the ball was tipped. MGM took over possession.


To start the 4th quarter the Dolphins still led by 3 points. MGM tried to throw the ball but was intercepted by Carter Byrd of Gulf Shores.


Wilson and the Dolphins gained some tough yards but faced another 4th down. Barkly punted this time from about midfield. The Vikings took possession on their own 15 with 9 minutes remaining in the game.


Landon Everette and other Dolphin Defensive players were tough but MGM threw for a first down. The referees then called roughing the passer on Gulf Shores. MGM Vikings drove inside the Gulf Shores 20. Garrett and Duncan led a stop but MGM obtained another first down. The Vikings QB ran for a touchdown. After a PAT the MGM Vikings took the lead with a score of 21-17.


Four minutes now remained in the game. Dolphins took over from their own 25 yard line. Wilson got another big run. After the first down Gulf Shores kept the ball on the ground and rushed for another first down. With just over two minutes remaining, the Dolphins ran up the middle. Now inside the Viking's 20, Wilson ran for a first down.


With under one minute remained. Gulf Shores threw two incomplete passes. On fourth down with 44 seconds remaining, Gulf Shores was stopped and turned the ball over on downs.


The MGM Vikings ran out the clock and won the game.

The Gulf Shores Dolphins will face the undefeated Saraland Spartans next week in Gulf Shores on the field of Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium. Game time is 7pm on September 6th.

Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week.
