Gulf Shores Dolphins Rank No. 1 in 5A Football

Rank No. 1 in Sports Writer Poll

Gulf Shores in ranked 1st amongst 5A High School football teams according to the Sports Writer's Association. MaxPreps, which bases it's rankings on scored and strength of schedule, has the Dolphins and 3rd in the State.


Whichever poll you use, the Gulf Shores Dolphins are dominating in their games this year. They are 6-0 and have outscored their opponents by a combined 151 points (201-50).


They still have four games left in the regular season and they will be playing undefeated Vigor on October 27th. The game will be in Gulf Shores and kick-off is scheduled for 7PM.


The Dolphins have had tremendous output from both sides of the ball. The offense has seen running back Kolin Wilson average 114 yards per game and a total of 12 touchdowns for the season. While multi-purpose (wr, cb) Braden Jackson had averaged over 30 receiving yards per game and has 3 interceptions for the year. The defensive side of the ball has contributors in every position led by Isaiah Hammac, Jamichael Garrett, Mac Anderson. They have had some many contributors it is truly hard to select the top performers.


Before tackling the Vigor Wolves, Gulf Shores will play Williamson on Oct. 6th and Elberta on Oct. 13th.


Make sure to catch a game before the season's end.

The Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Fest is set to take place this weekend, February 22nd & 23rd at The Beach Club Resort & Spa. The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
