The Highway 59 Widening Project, set to commence on Sunday, July 23, will bring significant changes to the area's traffic flow. The project's first phase will add a third southbound lane from Cypress Bend Drive to Fort Morgan Road.
The construction will begin with the installation of traffic control striping and safety barrels on Sunday night. To maintain two southbound lanes during construction, a portion of the center turn lane will be used to shift traffic and create a work safety zone along the roadway shoulders.
This traffic shift will extend from the W.C. Holmes Bridge south to Fort Morgan Road.
The installation of traffic control and striping is expected to continue into Monday night, during which one southbound traffic lane will temporarily be closed. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when workers are present.
