Gulf Shores Secures Historic 17-0 Victory Over UMS-Wright

gulf shores football news

In a decisive match, Gulf Shores' defense ensured a win against UMS-Wright, marking their first victory in the all-time series between the two teams. The Dolphins, currently ranked fourth in Class 5A, restricted UMS-Wright to a mere 56 total yards, advancing their season record to 4-0.

Kolin Wilson contributed significantly to the offense, rushing for 46 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Ronnie Royal, an N.C. State commit, added another 68 yards on 12 carries. Royal exited the game late due to a hard hit but was confirmed to be in good condition by Gulf Shores coach Mark Hudspeth.

The Dolphins extended their lead in the second half when Royal returned an interception for a 78-yard touchdown. This was followed by Wilson's late touchdown run, solidifying the win. On the defensive end, Jamichael Garrett led with six tackles and two sacks, matched in tackles by Mac Anderson.

The victory also carried a sense of retribution for Gulf Shores, as UMS-Wright was the only team to defeat them in the regular season last year. "The focus each week is not on a 10-0 season but on going 1-0 each week. This win holds special significance as it's the first against UMS-Wright in school history," said Lowe, without specifying his role on the team.

Gulf Shores, now 3-0 in 5A, Region 1 play, is set to face LeFlore in the upcoming week. Meanwhile, UMS-Wright, with a 2-2 season and 1-1 in the region, will go up against the undefeated Vigor.

Royal reflected on the win, stating, "We knew many doubted us, so we took on the role of the underdogs. Tonight, we proved those doubters wrong."
