The legendary bar is selling  G of A shirts online

If the Flora-Bama is selling the shirt then the name change must be official. During the events of the week people have noticed the flurry of online sales happening at the Flora-Bama's website. People around the nation are ordering the official "Gulf of America" shirt.

Donald Trump may have said it but it is not official until the Flora-Bama puts it on a shirt! They are currently available at the Flora-Bama Store website. A marketing representative from the famous beach bar stated that the sales exploded as soon as the item was posted online.

For over 400 years the 'Gulf of Mexico' has appeared on maps around the world. A well published use took place when Baptiste Boazio, the illustrator and map maker of Francis Drake's Caribbean cruise of attacks in the 1580s, used "Gulf of Mexico" on his map "View of Entire Route of Sir Francis Drake's West Indian Voyage."

Now the former and soon to be new President of the United States has introduced the idea of changing the body of water's name to the Gulf of America. Other lawmakers in the United States have actually considered this in the past. In 2012 a member of the Mississippi Legislature, Stephen Holland, once proposed a bill to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to "Gulf of America" wherever the water touched the beaches of the US.

Map makers around the world might have some work to do. The International Hydrographic Organization, which controls the surveys for the world's seas, oceans and navigable waters, will need to make changes to it's official charting. They have over 100 member countries who have used their maritime measurements for over 100 years.

So while they are changing the official maps we can get the official shirts at the BAMA.

SS United States
By Allison Marlow February 22, 2025
Once the most powerful and sleek vessel in the world, now the SS United States has set out on its last voyage above the waves to become the largest artificial reef in the world underneath them. Witnesses said a gathered crowd at Fox Point State Park in Wilmington, Delaware, held their breath as the rusted berth passed slowly beneath a series of three bridges, guided by a tugboat and tucked securely in a circling school of police and Coast Guard boats.
