Kiva Dunes Guests and Golfers Safer With AED Devices

Gulf Shores Area News

Kiva Dunes Resort and the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department have teamed up to provide Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at Kiva Dunes. This initiative aims to improve the safety of golfers and guests at the resort.

Fire Chief Lee Steiner stressed the importance of having AEDs onsite. He mentioned that due to the high volume of guests and the distance from the nearest ER, it's crucial for staff to be trained in emergency response. Steiner shared a recent incident where a guest had a medical emergency near the clubhouse. Because the fire department had an AED on the grounds, they were able to help the patient quickly, leading to a positive outcome.

The fire department also benefits from this partnership. They emphasized that having trained staff available during emergencies is invaluable. Extra hands during an emergency help first responders provide more efficient and effective care.

Sudden cardiac arrest is often fatal if not treated immediately. When cardiac arrest happens, the heart stops, and the patient has no pulse or breath. Immediate treatment with CPR and an AED can significantly increase survival rates, improving them by up to 75%. Statistics show that 9 out of 10 victims who receive a shock from an AED within the first minute survive.

Businesses interested in purchasing AEDs can contact the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department at 251-540-7500. The fire department also offers CPR training and certification for resort and hotel employees. Kiva Dunes has signed up for these classes this fall.

This partnership shows the commitment of both Kiva Dunes and the Ft. Morgan Volunteer Fire Department to community safety. By providing AEDs and training staff, they set a high standard for proactive public health measures.
