Fifth-generation farmer and entrepreneur Christina Woerner McInnis announced she is running for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner.
The Baldwin County native founded AgriTech Corp. and developed SoilKit.
“I love farming and agriculture, but this is so much more than that,” McInnis said. “I'm an entrepreneur. I'm a businesswoman. I'm raising four children, and I'm happily married. But I've been called to step up and serve, and this is about getting the job done.”
McInnis comes from a long line of farmers. Her family owns Woerner Farms, headquartered in Foley. The company has provided turf for sporting events nationwide, including some for the MLB and NFL.
In her own right, McInnis won the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Alabama Rural Owned Small Business of the year in 2023. She has also teamed up with Flowerwood Medical Cannabis, in Loxley.
McInnis, a Republican, said the next election is important for the future of Alabama. “This election is going to shape the next decade,” she said. “It is important that we stand firm in our principles and our values. We cannot afford to lose what makes Alabama great. I am going to fight for our farms, our food supply, and our future.”
McInnis said her campaign will focus on supporting family farms, advocating for sustainable farming practices, promoting agricultural exports through Alabama’s ports and cutting bureaucratic red tape that burdens small agribusinesses.
Other possible candidates for AG Commissioner are State Sen. Jack Williams (R-Wilmer) and Mayor Corey Hill of Douglas in Marshall County.
