Gulf Shores Area Fire

Officials are investigating a Foley recreational vehicle fire in which a man and dog died March 17.

At 12:16am, the Foley Fire and Foley Police Departments were dispatched to a reported fire in an RV located at 303 W. Magnolia Ave. in Foley.

Response units found a 32-foot travel trailer burning behind the residence. Firefighters were told that a victim was trapped inside.

Fire units put out the fire and began searching for victims. One occupant of the RV was able to escape the fire without injury. Searchers found the body of Dallas Omega Martin in the RV. Martin was dead with severe burns. A small dog was found dead in the RV and is believed to have also died in the fire.

The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office and Baldwin County Coroner’s Office also responded requests to investigate the fire and death along with Foley Fire and Foley Police departments. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that the victim died as a result of the fire.

While the investigation is still open, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time due to the extensive damage to the RV and no first-hand knowledge of the fire’s origin.
