Many Christmas Events Delayed This Weekend

The local weather on Friday & Saturday is 80% chance of rain

The weather forecast is calling for an 80% chance of rain along the Alabama Gulf Coast this weekend and some localities have already delayed their scheduled events. On a weekend typically filled with parades, tree lightings and outdoor choirs, Friday and Saturday appear to be full of storm clouds. See Event Delays Below.


Below is the current forecast for the weekend from the National Weather Service:


Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 73. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 71. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 70. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.


We all know that the weather is subject to change in a moments notice along the beach, but several local entities have already postponed events which were scheduled for this weekend. Below is a list of known changes:


GULF SHORES - Community Christmas at Sims Park event has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 14 at 6 p.m. Movies at Meyer Park showing scheduled for that night will follow at Sims Park, too. (new schedule below)

·         December 5 – The Baldwin Pops Holiday Concert

·         December 14 – Community Christmas at Sims Park & Movies at Meyer Park (Sims Park)

·         December 16 – Breakfast with Santa


ELBERTA - The Town of Elberta has rescheduled their Christmas Parade to Friday, Dec. 8th, at 6:30PM


FOLEY - The City of Foley responded: Foley's Christmas in the Park and the Lighting of the Christmas Tree will be Friday, Dec. 8th. The parade and Let It Snow will be Saturday, Dec. 9th.


FOLEY - The Coastal Holiday Market has been rescheduled to December 8-9th


Foley Graham Creek Nature Preserve - is still scheduled to begin Dec. 2nd. Organizers will continue to monitor weather conditions. The trail, which features thousands of lights through the preserve, is scheduled to be held Dec. 2, 8, 9, 15, 16 and 17 beginning at 5:30 p.m.


ORANGE BEACH - After completing the Christmas Tree lighting this past weekend, the next official event in Orange Beach is on December 9th. The City of Orange Beach did announce Friday's Memorial Night has been rescheduled for Sunday, December 10th

The Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Fest is set to take place this weekend, February 22nd & 23rd at The Beach Club Resort & Spa. The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. This year's festival features several improvements, including daily ticket caps to control crowds and prevent long lines.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Alabama's 14th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is set for Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23, 2025. During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
