Gulf Shores Open Playoff Game With Powerful Start, On To Championship

Gulf Shores started game with 28 unanswered points in first half

The rain stayed away from the Gulf Shores Sportsplex as the Dolphins went to work against the Eufaula Tigers for the Alabama 5A Playoffs. Gulf Shores Dolphins come in with 13 straight wins.


Gulf Shores won the flip and chose to kick-off to begin the game. Langston's kick was fielded by the Tigers at the 10 and gained just a few yards to place it on the 13. On their first play from scrimmage they got a first down.


The Eufaula Tigers from for the next two sets of down but were held by the Dolphins at midfield. With a 4th and 11, the Tigers punted to Gulf Shores and Royal fumbled the catch... giving Eufaula the ball on the 2 yard line. After being held for 3 plays by the Dolphins defense, Eufaula missed a short field goal, turning over the ball to Gulf Shores on their own twenty yard line.


The Dolphin offense gained a first down from a pass interference and moved the ball. They then were able to drive over midfield and Ronnie Royal ran it 31 yards to deep in Tiger territory. Kolin Wilson was able to get a 27 yard run for a touchdown with 4:08 left in the first quarter. Langston's PAT was good at the Gulf Shores Dolphins led 7-0.


After the Dolphins kick the Eufaula Tigers faced a strong Gulf Shores defense who dropped were in the Tigers backfield often. Only losing yards, the Tigers punted on 4th and 17. Punt was handled by Ronnie Royal.


Back on offense, the Dolphins gained yards from Wilson and Royal combo. Both dominated and Ronnie Royal broke a 57 yard touchdown. The PAT was good and Gulf Shores had a 14-0 lead, still in the first quarter.


Eufaula received the ball on their own 37. The Tigers pushed for a first down. and the first quarter ended.


At the beginning of the second quarter Eufaula again drove for a first down. The Tigers were able to get yardage running behind their line. Then Eufaula combined some passes and drove their team down within the 10 yard line. After a Dolphins had a great goal-line stand, the Tigers were stopped on the 4 yard line and gave up the ball to Gulf Shores.


With 6 minutes remaining in the half, the Dolphins got a great run by Kolin Wilson pushing the ball up the field and gaining a first down. Wilson then ripped a 74 yard run for a touchdown. Will Langston made the extra point and the Gulf Shores Dolphins led the Eufaula Tigers 21-0. Over 3 minutes still remained in the first half.


Eufaula started the next drive on their own 20. Unable to escape Garrett and the defense, Eufaula punted and the ball only went 23 yards.


The Dolphins took over the ball on Eufaula's side of the field. Immediately Kolin Wilson carried the ball for 46 yards and scored another touchdown. The PAT was good and the score was 28-0 for the Dolphins over the Tigers. There was still 2:20 left in the first half.


Starting at their own 20 yard line, Eufaula gained a first down due to a Gulf Shores penalty. Even after trying to run a reverse the Tigers found it tough sledding against the stout Dolphin defense. A referee was then injured and time had to be called on the field. The crowd applauded for the Umpire as he had to leave the game.


With 4th and 15, the Tigers punted and the Dolphins took over on their own 30 yard line. Gulf Shores quarterback Jud Harris threw deep and the receiver committed pass interference. Gulf Shores ended the half with the lead of 28-0.


HALF-TIME


The Gulf Shores Dolphins received the kick-off to start the second half of the ASHAA 5A Football Playoff game. Starting from their own 35, the offense was unsuccessful running but Jud Harris was able to get 16 yards on a keeper.


Bryce Stephens had a big pick-up but the play was negated by a personal foul on Gulf Shores. Wilson then ran 6 yards for a 1st down. Kolin Wilson was able to power for another first down with seven minutes left on the quarter. Then Wilson made a 27 yard touchdown run. Langston's point-after made the game 35-0.


On the kick-off, Eufaula ran the ball back deep into the field. JaMichael Garrett was injured on the play but able to leave the field on his own.


The Eufaula Tigers got a first down but Landon Everett and the defense again showed their strength. Tigers had to punt.


With over 400 yards of rushing, the Gulf Shores Dolphins kept up their dominant performance. After the end of the 3rd quarter the Dolphins kicked a 36 yard field goal. The score by Will Langston made the score 38-0.


The Tigers got the ball back early in the 4th and were able to move the ball passing. Combined with a strong run, Eufaula was able to get another first down.

Dolphins began running the ball again and rushed down to the 2 yard line. Gulf Shores brought in their heavy package and Kolin Wilson scored. Another PAT by Langston made the score 45-0.


7:21 remained in the game when Gulf Shores kicked off to Eufaula. The Dolphins inserted some back-up players on their defense. They continued to be in the Tiger's backfield. Eufaula had to punt the ball.


The Dolphins took over with just under 5 minutes left in the game. Gulf Shores kept rushing with power behind Pruitt and King on the O-Line. Keeping the ball during the last minutes of the game, the Gulf Shores Dolphins ran out the clock.


FINAL SCORE:  GULF SHORES 45     EUFAULA TIGERS - 0


The Gulf Shores Dolphins will now play the Ramsay Rams on December 7th, at 7PM in Tuscaloosa at the Bryant-Denny Stadium for the AHSAA 5A ALABAMA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Auburn will play Florida in the Final Four of the men's NCAA College Basketball Tournament. So it seems fitting that the ultimate game watch spot will be on the line at the Flora-Bama sports grill. Auburn defeated Michigan State by a score of 70-64 and punched their ticket to San Antonio for the big game. Now the SEC matchup between Alabama and Florida college teams makes the national championship more exciting for coastal fans.
