In a press release from Orange Beach City Schools, Wade Waldrop has been named the new head football coach for Orange Beach Middle and High School. This decision was announced during a special meeting of the Orange Beach Board of Education today.

Waldrop brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously coached at Hoover High School. Under his leadership, Hoover won a region championship in 2022 but fell short in the state semifinals. His coaching career record is 116 wins against 88 losses, accumulated across various high schools including Hoover, Florence, James Clemmons, and Chelsa.

During his 18-year tenure as a head coach, Waldrop's teams have made 13 playoff appearances, highlighting his consistent performance in the field. Waldrop's connection to football extends beyond coaching, as he played as a punter for three seasons at the University of Alabama Birmingham, boasting an average punt of 35.7 yards in his final season. He also served as a graduate assistant with the Blazers.

Waldrop's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in history and a master's in education, further underlining his commitment to both sports and academics. He is a native of Hartselle and is married to Kimberly, with whom he shares four children: Carsyn, Camryn, Cooper, and Callyn.

More than 160 candidates expressed interest in the coaching position. The interviewees included head coaches, coordinators, and position coaches from various levels, including the NFL, college, and high school.

Waldrop impressed the selection committee with his proven track record and his comprehensive plans for player development, focusing on aspects such as culture, character, family, community involvement, and program sustainability. These qualities, along with his experience and achievements, played a crucial role in his selection as the head coach for Orange Beach Middle and High School's football team.
