A new coach, new training facilities under construction and energized players have the Orange Beach Makos ready to start the new football season. Friday evening they showed that this is going to be a better year by beating rival Elberta, 27-21.
The Makos 2023 season of just one win is officially behind them. The revived football team has made their opening statement by holding tough in a tight rivalry game and winning on the road.
NEW MEDIA
Another new twist this season will be "Coaches Corner" at the Wharf. Sunny 105.7 launched the new program to keep local high school football fans connected and informed. Starting on August 27, 2024, the show will air every other Tuesday night from 7 to 7:30 PM throughout the football season. Broadcast live from Yo Ho Rum and Tacos at the Wharf, "Coaches Corner" will feature interviews with coaches and players from Orange Beach, offering insights into the Makos games. The program will be available both on-air and online, making it accessible for listeners to tune in from anywhere. "Coaches Corner" is sponsored by Brett-Robinson, Bryant Bank, and Wildcat Construction.
NEW GEAR
The Orange Beach Makos have a new official Mako Gear outlet. The Orange Beach Store opened a new and larger location since last season. They have dedicated a portion of the store to official Mako shirts, hats and other items. Best of all, 100% of the proceeds go to the Orange Beach Schools!
The Orange Beach Store owner, John McInnis, spoke about how proud he was of the local school's new facilities and faculty. He stated it was an honor to provide the Mako Gear for the Orange Beach fans.
NEW SEASON
Now that the Orange Beach Makos have the new facilities, faculty and gear it is time to kick-off the new season. Opening up with a overtime win against Elberta was a great start. below is the remainder of the schedule:
