Gulf Shores Police officer fills up tank for stranded motorist

Gulf Shores Police News

Gulf Shores Police Officer Timothy Hester went above and beyond the call of duty to help a stranded motorist.

Officer Timothy Hester used money out of his own pocket to get gas for the woman who had broken down on the side of the road.

He said when he arrived on the scene, the woman told him she was on her way to pick up her kids.

“I mean, as a somewhat struggling parent myself, I had a feeling that money may be tight for her,” Hester remembered. “And I figured that was $30, $40 she might be able to use toward presents for her kids. Or it might be just one less thing that she had to worry about, being able to get from one place to the other.”

Hester was selected as the Patrol Officer of the Month in December following his good deed.

“Officer Hester was highlighted as representing the department professionally while keeping a calm demeanor in stressful situations,” the department posted on Facebook.

Hester said the attention he is getting is highly embarrassing. After nine and a half years of being in law enforcement, he said he is thankful to have a job where he can help people.

“This was never my intent to try to get any kind of recognition for this,” Hester said. “I just wanted to help somebody that needed help.”
