The Wharf Plans "Light Up Labor Day" Celebration

Jessica Taylor • August 21, 2023

Grab some sweets at Kilwins and watch the party begin at the Wharf!

Here at the beach we call it “100 Days of Summer”. Our local schools start a couple of weeks before; however, our summer officially closes out on Labor Day weekend. The 100 Days run from Memorial weekend to Labor Day, opening with fireworks and ending the same way.

The Wharf in Orange Beach will be hosting a public event dubbed “Light Up Labor Day” and promises to end with a bang. Not only are the night lights of the Wharf spectacular each evening with our famous Ferris Wheel and lit up Palms down Main Street, but, also for special events they light up the skies.

This will be a three-hour event with DJ Matt starting around 6 PM. Main Street will be blocked off for safe foot traffic with parking offered around and inside parking decks. The streets will be transformed for family fun interactive games and set up for a place to enjoy your fellow neighbors' company and visitors.

Bring a chair and set up in front of your favorite shop to save a spot for the show, then take a walk through to find unique gifts from local shops with local artistry and school spirit items. Spend the whole day or just come a little early and plan to eat after arrival.

Choose from a variety of good eats including fine dining or just pop in
Island Time Daiquiris for a cold beverage and a slice of pizza. And browse through The Pantry for a variety of unique food ideas. The kids' favorite SPECTRA light show will start right before the fireworks and continue during the firework show and once more after. If you aren't familiar with this part of the Summer Wharf events, this is a show where the music will sync with the lights on the palm trees and start a dance party that all ages can get in the groove for. The first SPECTRA show starts at 8:45 then fireworks start at 9 PM with SPECTRA included and again at 9:30 PM after the firework's finale.

Join the fun in celebration of American workers and what you and your family have achieved this year and historically. Take a break from the daily grind and enjoy the long weekend polished off with the USA tradition of fireworks and family focused fun. This is a great way to end the Summer and hopefully actuate the seasons for some cooler shaded days of fall.
