The weather is forecasted to be extremely cold over the next few days and Gulf Shores City Schools are preparing for the fiasco this may create. Dr. Matthew Akin, Superintendent of the Gulf Shores City District, has announced that the schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21st.
He stated in a press release that "due to extremely cold temperatures and anticipated wintry weather. A decision regarding school closures for Wednesday, January 22nd, will be made at a later time."
The 'Tuesday Tour' at Gulf Shores High School will be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. All extracurricular activities will also be cancelled on Tuesday, January 21st.
The National Weather Service, stationed in Mobile, Al., stated that they expect "bitterly" cold conditions over the next few days. There is a winter storm watch in effect until Wednesday at 6am.
They added "There is a HIGH (70 to 90 percent) chance of accumulating wintry precipitation on Tuesday, producing at least moderate impacts to the area (although MAJOR impacts are possible). The timing of accumulating snow begins as early as Tuesday morning and continues into the evening."

Due to anticipated wintry weather, Orange Beach City Schools will transition to virtual learning on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Regarding school on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, we will determine the status as soon as possible based on any precipitation and the hourly temperature forecast. Stay safe and warm!
