As the week starts out with a chill, you can warm up at some indoor events along the island. The Alabama Gulf Coast offers a variety of events this week, providing options for music, food, art, and outdoor activities. From live performances and creative workshops to marathons and gardening events, the schedule has something for all interests. Whether you want to enjoy local seafood, participate in community activities, or take part in fitness challenges, there are opportunities to connect and explore across Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and nearby areas.


Monday, January 20th -
 On the third Monday in January every year nationwide schools and more are closed in honor and commemoration of the life and achievements credited to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The date this year is all the more memorable as it’s shared with yet another nationally accepted honoration falling on the Inauguration day of America’s 47th President. After the fullness of such an important morning in history, one might need to lighten up, laugh and carry on, making an afternoon at Lulu’s a perfect choice. Treat yourself to some widely celebrated entertainment with Alabama Gulf Coast’s official Music Ambassador, Mr. Brent Burns. Kicking off on stage at 4PM until 8PM where guests can slide in for an app such as Lulu’s Sassy Salsa and queso before dinner or stay and dine in choosing from a sizable seafood selection to taco’s all the way down to good ole Mama’s turnip greens. Don’t fret about the lowering weather, relax and keep warm and cozy with special designed custom space heaters diligently sprinkled about to maintain widespread comfort. Tuesday, January 21st - 
 Bundle up and head over to Bubba’s Seafood where the steam promises to illuminate from the kitchen as well as the stage. Prepare to churn up the heat starting at 2PM with Brandon Giles, a self-taught piano virtuoso who taps the keys well beyond the traditional boundaries. Giles describes it best as a mix of “Little Richard meets AC/DC on steroids.” Invite some friends to enjoy an afternoon at the bar, snack on some fried pickles or stay for you guessed it, a yummy seafood dinner. Prefer your meals from land not to worry, Bubba’s menu offers a huge selection of meat entrées and between the bun options, offering something different for everyone in the group even the picky ones. Giles unique style is best expressed through original music included in his live performances making his repertoire “infused with a mix of hard rocking honky-tonk classics, electrifying blues and boogie-woogie standards” a set not to be trifled with. Wednesday, January 22nd -
 While some hibernate in small private dens, others prefer more of a social gathering to cohabitate in during the frigid temps. If you’d rather shiver for a short time to get to a banging group for a “beano” time, Tacky Jacks Fort Morgan Wednesdays are primed for that kind of liking. Join Tim Roberts and friends for a FREE night of Bingo from 5-8PM marking cool beach memories with friends who are experiencing the same cool costal scarcities as you. No set prize draw per week, so guests can gamble in the thrill of the past wins and hope for a similar triumph. The games will be held indoors, offering plenty of heating, a full menu and bar, making it a cozy place to post up with friends while away from home.

Thursday, January 23rd -
 Nifty Crafts aren't only for kids, Orange Beach Public Library rightfully celebrates the creative in all ages, marking a special calendar time each month just for adults. The first art of order for ‘Crafty Adults’ is a Coastal Seashell Collage. Participants can choose from one of two class times beginning at 2:30PM-6:30PM. Registration is required and accepted through the phone, on Facebook, or by signing up in person at the Library open six days a week. Deep dive into the charter's unknown, imagine the mist of watercolors, creatures and more while escaping into a tropical world of what lies beneath the ripples and waves plus more familiar treasures found mixed in and around the sand. Paints, other mediums and materials will all be provided, including but not limited to an array of seashell shapes and sizes to add texture to the collage creation. Get ready to design your very own ocean masterpiece to keep, or make a gift for someone special while laughing and enjoying with other resourceful crafting visionaries.

Friday, January 24th -
 Heat up your night at Big Beach in Gulf Shores for a quirky jam packed musical, art, and beverage mash up. Band Spicy Danger hits the stage from 6-9PM with local fan favorite female lead Rachael Lane. This duo really gets the crowd moving with lyrical tunes and a silly creative flare unlike any you’ve seen before. They’re not the only magical duo caught at Big Beach, appreciate island OG artists Nick and Maya Cantrell’s art on display with a gallery of show and sell available for a limited time. A family that arts together stays together and this power couple, while developing a family of artists has taken the industry led by storm independently together for many moons of age. Maya, an island native, rightfully carved “MayaEarth” in her work makes the most beautiful custom lines of pottery as the Orange Beach Art Center’s resident potter. Nick paints from life and experiences as an islander in a unique style called Batik watercolors. Both creators heavily decorated with awards from various traveling and local pop-ups are rarely showcased together, making this one an incredible night of opportunity and possibilities. Who knows, you might even get a chance to tap glasses in a cheers while rubbing elbows with the famed artists themselves. Saturday, January 25th -
 Saturday is blooming with possibilities seeped in flavor, get ready to live it up. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is pleased to host its 3rd Annual Seed and Plant Swamp event on National Seed Swap Day. Green thumb or not, this event lights up the wide possibilities of gardening in a coastal southern climate with enthusiasts at the top of their gardening game dropping knowledge all while getting your hands on some prime seedlings and plants. From 9AM–2PM included with a zoo day pass purchase or membership, get ready to dig into activities, stroll through vendors, learn, teach, share with the added bonus of a regular visit to the animals inside while shopping and learning. Sunday, January 26th -
 Cut loose in adventure while trimming up with the Big Beach Marathon featuring locations at the Hangout in Gulf Shores, paved trails in the Gulf State park now offering registration for two outstanding days of fun. On Saturday, seize the moment in the Safari 7K and Family Fun Run/Walk, perfect for those seeking a shorter, flatter challenge. More options presented are catching the thrill of watching the waves with a fast Marathon and Half Marathon Gulf side on Sunday. Whether choosing between the two or finding yourself feeling ambitious enough to take on the Shark or Dolphin challenge and run the 7K on Saturday and the Full or Half Marathon on Sunday, Big Beach Marathon weekend promises a whirl of mobility fun. The Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Fest is set to take place this weekend, February 22nd & 23rd at The Beach Club Resort & Spa. The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. This year's festival features several improvements, including daily ticket caps to control crowds and prevent long lines.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Alabama's 14th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is set for Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23, 2025. During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
