Holiday Schedules For Gulf Shores, Foley and Orange Beach

As the holiday season approaches, many of the municipal services will be affected by the schedules for the season. We have compiled the noticed from each city and wrapped them for you below. Please remember that County, State and Federal services also have seasonal schedules.


The United States Postal Service put out a notice this week stating, "In observance of the two holidays, Post Offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1. Blue collection boxes will not be serviced these days and there are no residential or business deliveries — except for Priority Mail Express, which is delivered 365 days a year in select locations for an additional fee."


GULF SHORES

Christmas Holiday Closures:

• Police, Fire, and other emergency services will remain open to ensure public safety and

health.

• Administrative offices for the City of Gulf Shores will be closed on Friday, December 22,

and Monday, December 25. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, December 26.

• The Gulf Shores City Store will be closed on Monday, December 25. Regular operations

will resume on Tuesday, December 26.

• The Thomas B. Norton Library will be closed from Friday, December 22, to Monday,

December 25. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, December 26.

• The Gulf Shores Museum will be closed from Friday, December 22, to Monday,

December 25. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, December 26.

• The Bodenhamer Recreation Center, George C. Meyer Tennis Center, and Cultural

Center will be closed Sunday, December 24, and Monday, December 25. Regular

operations will resume on Tuesday, December 26.

• The Pickleball courts and Tennis courts will remain open and available for play

throughout the holidays.

• Republic Services Garbage and Recycling Services will run one day late. Please place

bins out one day later than your usual pickup day.

• Yard Debris/Bulky Pick-up routes will move up one day; please have debris out one day

ahead of your usual pickup day. Trucks will be running December 18-21.

• If you plan on recycling your Christmas trees for dune restoration efforts at the Gulf State

Park, please place your clean trees, stripped of all decorations, in a separate pile beside

debris.


New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day Holiday Closures:

ORANGE BEACH:

The city made this announcement on their website: As the Christmas and New Year's holidays approach, residents should note that all non-essential city offices in Orange Beach will be closed on December 25th and 26th, 2023, as well as on New Year's Day. 


In addition to office closures, the city has announced adjustments to its trash and recycling collection schedule. Both services will not operate on the actual holiday dates. To accommodate this, all routes will be delayed by one day. Specifically, residential trash will be collected on Wednesday and Saturday, while recycling pick-ups are rescheduled to Thursday for both holiday weeks.


FOLEY:

The city offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 25th and 26th. Also Monday, Jan. 1st.

Recycling pickup scheduled for Monday, Dec. 25, will be collected Friday, Dec. 22. Tuesday and Wednesday recycling and garbage will be picked up Wednesday, Dec. 27. Other days are not affected.

Recycling pickup for Jan. 1 will be collected Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The Foley Public Library will also be closed Saturday, Dec. 23 as well as Monday and Tuesday.

The Foley Depot Museum and Holmes Medical Museum will be open Saturday, Dec. 23, but will be closed Monday and Tuesday. They will also be closed Jan. 1.

The Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Fest is set to take place this weekend, February 22nd & 23rd at The Beach Club Resort & Spa. The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Alabama's 14th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is set for Friday, February 21, through Sunday, February 23, 2025. During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
