31st Annual National Shrimp Festival Golf Challenge

The 31st Annual National Shrimp Festival Golf Challenge for Education will take place on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Craft Farms Golf Club in Gulf Shores. Organized by the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, this event serves as the official kickoff leading up to the National Shrimp Festival. The golf challenge has been a longstanding tradition since 1993, attracting participants of all skill levels. Funds raised from the event support local education initiatives, with a focus on enhancing educational opportunities in the community. Participants can look forward to a day filled with friendly competition, prize giveaways, and various contests, including hole-in-one, chipping, and putting challenges, making it a fun and rewarding experience for all involved.

8th Annual Miss Shrimp Festival Pageant

The 8th Annual Miss Shrimp Festival Pageant will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Orange Beach Event Center in Orange Beach. This pageant is open to all Baldwin County girls aged 4-18, spanning Pre-K through 12th grade. Participants, whether from homeschool, public, or private schools, will be judged on their appearance, poise, and personality during the competition. The event provides a platform for young girls in the community to showcase their talents and charm, with winners receiving various titles and accolades that recognize their achievements and participation in this longstanding local tradition.

The Hangout in Gulf Shores

Tacky Jack's Gulf Shores

Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores is set to host the 9th Annual Bloody Mary 5K Run/Competitive Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, August 31, 2024. This popular Labor Day weekend event kicks off at 7:30 AM, offering participants a flat and fast course through city and neighborhood streets, perfect for those looking to set a personal record or simply enjoy a fun run. The race starts just one block west of Tacky Jacks, in front of Acme Oyster Bar. The first 300 registrants will receive a custom Bloody Mary-themed T-shirt, while others will receive a different shirt, with sizes not guaranteed. To celebrate the start of the football season, participants are encouraged to wear their favorite school colors, with Team Spirit Awards up for grabs. After the race, a post-race party at Tacky Jacks will feature free beer, food, and Bloody Mary's for all runners and walkers (21+ for alcoholic beverages), along with live music and age group awards. Early packet pickup is available on Friday, August 30th, from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, and again on race morning from 6:00 AM to 7:10 AM. This event has become a Labor Day weekend tradition in Gulf Shores, offering a perfect blend of fitness, fun, and festive spirit.

The Wharf in Orange Beach

The Wharf in Orange Beach is set to host a Labor Day party which includes a fireworks and laser light show on Sunday, September 1st, 2024. The event kicks off at 6:00 PM on Main Street with DJ Matt providing lively tunes and games for attendees. The highlight of the evening will be a spectacular fireworks display at 8:45 PM, lighting up the night sky in a burst of color. Following the fireworks, the SPECTRA Laser Light Experience will mesmerize the crowd with shows at 8:30 PM, 9:00 PM, and 9:30 PM. This vibrant event promises a memorable evening for families and friends, combining music, lights, and fireworks in one of the Gulf Coast's most popular entertainment destinations.

Big Beach Brewing Company

Big Beach Brewing Company in Gulf Shores is celebrating Labor Day Weekend with the opening of an art show featuring the works of Kristin Pierre, an award-winning contemporary impressionist. On Sunday, September 1st, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, visitors can enjoy Kristin's vibrant oil paintings, which will be displayed in the taproom throughout the month. This opening event offers a unique opportunity to meet Kristin, learn about her creative process, and immerse yourself in her captivating landscapes. Live Bait in Orange Beach

Live Bait in Orange Beach is set to host a special Singer-Songwriters Sunday event on September 1st, 2024, as part of their Labor Day Weekend festivities. From 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, local and visiting musicians are invited to take the stage and share their talents with a lively audience of both locals and Gulf Coast visitors. This family-friendly event welcomes solo artists, duos, trios, and full bands to showcase their original music, with cover songs also allowed. It's an excellent opportunity for performers to connect with the community and entertain a diverse crowd in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Flora-Bama Lounge

The Flora-Bama's Annual Miss Flora-Bama Bikini Contest is set to conclude on Saturday, August 31st (Labor Day Weekend), bringing an end to the 2024 competition. Known for its vibrant atmosphere, the world-famous beach bar hosts several bikini contests throughout the year during major events like the Mullet Toss, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July. The top three winners from each of these contests advance to the Labor Day Bikini Contest Finale Labor Day Weekend, where they will compete for the coveted $5,000 Grand Prize.

Bulls on the Beach

Right after Labor Day Weekend the Flora-Bama is hosting its annual Bulls on the Beach event. It runs from September 5th to 7th, 2024. This event will feature three nights of live rodeo action, showcasing Professional Bull Riders from across the country. The weekend kicks off on Thursday with a special Kid's Night, where children 12 and under can participate in a Coloring Contest with a chance to win a bike, followed by professional bull riding. The excitement continues on Friday and Saturday nights with intense adult bull riding competitions. A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, making the weekend not only entertaining but also meaningful. Flora-Bama invites families and rodeo enthusiasts alike to join in the fun and experience one of its most popular events of the year.

The Annual Fort Morgan Oyster Fest is set to take place this weekend, February 22nd & 23rd at The Beach Club Resort & Spa. The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. This year's festival features several improvements, including daily ticket caps to control crowds and prevent long lines.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

During this period, residents can purchase essential severe weather preparedness items without paying the state's 4% sales tax. In some areas, local taxes will also be waived, allowing shoppers to save up to 10% on eligible items.
