In a commendable act of community service, the Baldwin Regional Area Transit System (BRATS) and the Bay Minette Police Department came to the rescue of a stranded youth group from Smryna, Tennessee. The incident occurred on June 23, 2023, when the bus carrying the group caught fire on Hwy. 59 South of Bay Minette.

The youth group, comprising 49 passengers, was en route to the Gulf Shores Christian Retreat on West Beach Blvd. when the unfortunate incident took place. Concerned about the safety of the students amidst traffic and excessive heat, Bay Minette Police Corporal, Paul Adams, reached out to BRATS for assistance.

In response, BRATS dispatched three buses to the location. The buses, operated by Ron Stewart, the fleet and driver manager, Joy Callaway, the driver supervisor, and Joey Braswell, a mechanic, successfully transported the group to their destination by 5:30 p.m., despite the heavy beach traffic.

The youth group expressed their gratitude for the cooperative efforts of BRATS and the Bay Minette Police Department, who ensured their safety and comfort during a challenging situation.
