Gulf State Park has announced a controlled burn scheduled for November 28th at Eagle Loop and Lakeview Trail. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., State Park Road, Lakeview Trail, and Eagle Loop Trail will be closed. The closure is to ensure public safety and to give space for the forestry team to conduct the burn efficiently.

Prescribed burns, also known as controlled burns, are vital for maintaining fire-dependent ecosystems in the park. These activities play a crucial role in improving habitats, enhancing plant biodiversity, reducing invasive species, limiting pest and insect diseases, and recycling nutrients back into the soil. Experts highlight that regular prescribed burns help reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, safeguarding both the land and surrounding communities.
