US Army Rangers Group To Hold National Event At Flora-Bama

Rangers at Flora-Bama

On October 7th, the Flora-Bama will host members of the United States Army Ranger Association in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the battle of Mogadishu. Rangers past and present will honor those that fought and died by running and walking 1-mile in the sand on the beaches of Flora-Bama. This event is often referred to as the MOG Mile. The Mogadishu Mile refers to the route used by the Rangers and Delta Force soldiers during the "Black Hawk Down"  incident.


The Flora-Bama regularly hosts meetings for the Rangers and is considered a "Ranger Base" by the USARA. The base was named after GABRIEL KINNEY, who fought with Merrill's Marauders during World War Two. This is the first time the have hosted an event for the national membership of the USARA.


The MOG Mile ceremony will start promptly at 1200 hours. Just walk down the beach walkway at Flora Bama and you will see the beach stage platform and Rangers and their families. During the MOG Mile Ceremony, a member of Task Force Ranger will read the names of the fallen, who made the Supreme Sacrifice in Mogadishu, Somalia October 3-4, 1993.

Members of the USARA state “All proceeds to Three Rangers Foundation directly support active duty and former Rangers, their families, and Ranger Gold Star Families from the US Army’s 75 th Ranger Regiment, including veterans of affiliated supporting units”.

The event features all-you-can-eat oysters, live music, craft vendors, and various activities for attendees; including a larger kids area. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting this week. While he will no longer be heading the police department, Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.
